Casino Night for Summer Jobs Breaks Records

IMG_9664

Last Thursday over 200 guests, 48 firms and organizations, and numerous local businesses teamed up to raise over $45,000 at the Boston Bar Foundation’s 7th annual Casino Night for Summer Jobs – marking a record year for the fundraiser. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to fund the BBA Summer Jobs program.  The program, which is a collaboration among the BBA, Boston Public Schools, the Mayor’s Office and law firms throughout Boston, has provided more than 750 summer employment opportunities for young people since 1993.  The Boston Bar Foundation will provide 10 paid internships this summer at area non-profits, government offices and the courts through the BBA Summer Jobs Program.

At the event guests explored two floors full of authentic casino games to test out their gambling skills, while enjoying food and drinks. The entertainment didn’t stop there; guests entered into raffles, watched magic tricks, and competed for silent auction prizes.

We hope that you enjoyed Casino Night and will take a chance to scroll through our event album.  Thank you for your contribution to this important cause.  If your firm or organization is interested in hiring a student this summer, or for more information on supporting Summer Jobs, contact Katie D’Angelo at [email protected].

Celebrating 30 Years of Law Day in the Schools With More Than 30 Sponsors

Law-Day-in-the-Schools-for-Homepage

This year, the BBA is celebrating its 30th anniversary of Law Day in the Schools! For a bit of background: In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day as time to honor our government’s legal process and individual rights. Law Day has been celebrated on May 1st of each year since 1961, and the BBA is thrilled to turn Law Day into a month-long celebration at 16 Beacon Street with Law Day in the Schools and our Law Day Dinner.

Consistently one of the most popular public service programs among our members, the Law Day in the Schools program gives elementary, middle, and high school students in the Boston Public Schools a firsthand look at the legal profession. BBA volunteers introduce students to the legal profession, teach about legal rights and laws, and engage with our community. This year more than 80 volunteers will visit over 50 classrooms to teach more than 1,400 students about the 1966 U.S. Supreme Court case Miranda v. Arizona and expand upon the idea of “Miranda: More than Just Words.”

Who has signed up to volunteer so far?

  • 30 BBA Sponsors
  • 7 In-House Attorneys
  • 5 Government Attorneys
  • 3 LRS Attorneys
  • 1 Law School Professor
